ALICE PULOSKI (HUTCHISON)

Obituary of ALICE PULOSKI (HUTCHISON)

ALICE PULOSKI (HUTCHISON) With heavy hearts, after a lengthy illness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and baba, Alice, on November 16th, 2011, at Sunnywood Manor in Pine Falls at the age of 81. She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Hans Brutter, and her oldest daughter Pearl. She is survived by her daughters Kim, Heather (Jim) and Rae (Alex), and her sons Guy (Verna), and Karl (Carol). She also leaves behind ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Mom was raised in Norway House on "Brutter's Island" and moved to Pine Falls at age 16 to complete her education. There she met and married Peter Hutchison and had six children. Mom was a tireless worker and spent many nights sewing dresses, canning vegetables, or making soup and pies. We will always cherish and keep making her famous pea soup, borscht, meat pies and Christmas cake. She was an active member of the PFRA, Nurse's Union and volunteered at the Pine Falls Arena Canteen for years. She loved being around young people stating that they kept her young. Mom was employed at the Pine Falls Hospital, first as a nurse's aide, and then returned to school to attain her nursing diploma at age 41. She loved being a bedside nurse and always gave patients that little bit of extra TLC. After her children were grown she moved to Winnipeg where she continued her nursing career and worked extra shifts at many of the local school's cafeterias. She continued her avid volunteer work with the NDP. When a dinner was held in her honor recognizing her work, Gary Doer stated, "Give me an Alice Puloski in every constituency and I'd guarantee we'd never lose an election." Mom’s happiest times were at family gatherings. She would work for hours making sure all the food was prepared just right. She loved being a mother and a great baba. Mom welcomed everyone to her home and there was always an extra seat at the table. Family members would need to implore her to stop cooking and cleaning and come join the delicious supper she had prepared. Unfortunately, in later years, Mom's physical health began to decline and she moved to Middlechurch Personal Care Home, and then home again to Pine Falls. She never lost her sense of humor despite the loss of her health, and she was very thankful for the wonderful care she received at Sunnywood Manor. Memorial Service will be held at the Pine Falls United Church, Saturday, November 26th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or the Sunnywood Manor Personal Care Home. We love you Mom. Rest now, you are forever in our memory.
