JEAN ROSE HNATIUK

(nee Cyncora)

February 17, 1928 – December 1, 2019

Peacefully on December 1st, 2019, our Mother, Baba and Great Baba, Jean Hnatiuk (Cyncora) passed away at the Middlechurch Home in West St. Paul, Manitoba.

Jean is survived by her two sons Ernie (Simone), Tom (Susan) and son-in-law Robert, grandchildren Jeffrey (Carly), Shawna (Marco), Trisha (Ryan), Josh (Becca), Kristen (Kyle), Eric, and Brad. Jean was also blessed with 5 great grandchildren; Kayleigh, Matthew, Michael, Danika and Jordynn. She is also survived by brothers Casey (Francis), Eddie (Laverna), sister Rose, along with many nieces and nephews.

Jean was predeceased by her parents Frances and Michael, husband Bill, daughter Elsie, sister Helen and special companion John Ostafichuk.

Mom was born in Cloverleaf MB on February 17th, 1928 to Frances and Michael Cyncora. Jean grew up on the family farm and was the second of 5 children. She enjoyed the farm life until she moved to Winnipeg to find full time employment at Tan Jay Manufacturing. During her time in Winnipeg, she met and married her husband of 25 years, Bill. Together they had 3 children, Elsie, Ernie and Tom, and resided in Transcona during their life together. Both Jean and Bill enjoyed taking their family camping in the Whiteshell area, mostly at Nutimik Lake.

Mom worked hard for many years as a seamstress before retiring from Tan Jay in 1993. She also enjoyed volunteering at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox, Saint Ivan’s Orthodox Cathedral and Dufferin Hall “pinching” perogies with her special friend John O (Uncle Johnny).

Mom loved to go dancing, bowling as well as play bingo. Her passion in life was spending time with her family and friends and listening and dancing to Ukrainian music. When someone would go to visit Jean/Baba they were provided with the best homemade pyrohies, holopchi, piroshky and meatballs with gravy. You can be sure, there were always her famous Snowballs to go along with the care packages that she would send home with her visitors.

Mom/Baba was full of life, always wore a beautiful smile and constantly was there to lend a helping hand. When you went to visit Baba, there was never a shortage of kisses, hugs or good food. As much as mom loved her children, she also cherished spending time with her grandchildren/great grandchildren. In Baba’s eyes, there was no greater blessing than the loving family she nurtured. We will all miss that.

The family would like to offer many thanks to the staff at Middlechurch Home who provided great care to Mom.

Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday December 12, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Home 1800 Day Street Transcona. A private interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to Manitoba Cancer Care.
