Obituary of JOHN JOSEPH HEMMERLING
JOHN JOSEPH HEMMERLING
January 5, 1937 – December 1, 2019
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of John Hemmerling on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at St. Boniface hospital.
He will be deeply missed by Joan, his loving wife of 63 years, as well as his children John, James, Joan (Alan), George (Marcy), Liz, and Sandra; his grandchildren Pamela, Deana (JJ), Steven, David, Danielle, and Melanie; and his great-grandchildren Gwendolynne and Rowan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.
He was predeceased by his daughter Caroline and granddaughter Julia.
Dad kept busy all year long with his hobbies. He was an avid fisherman and used to make his own lures. His biggest pleasure was being out in the woods, camping and fishing with friends and family. Dad also enjoyed 10-pin bowling for over 30 years as a member of the Canadian German Society. After retiring from his job with the Manitoba government (over 40 years), dad also took up golfing with his many friends in the senior’s golfing club.
Dad, you fought a brave fight against cancer. We are at peace knowing you are free and without pain.
Thank you to the staff at St. Boniface hospital for their care and compassion during the last week of dad’s life. And a big thank you to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba for all the years dad was a patient.
A private family ceremony has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation 1160 – 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9 or email: donate@cancercare.mb.ca.
Those we love don’t go away,
they walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
still loved, still missed, and very dear.
