Obituary of INEZ ICILDA EDWARDS
INEZ ICILDA EDWARDS
July 8, 1939 – December 17, 2019
Inez Icilda Edwards age 80 years, passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on Wednesday, December 17, 2019 surrounded by family and friends.
Inez was born July 8th 1939 in Manchester, Jamaica to Vernal and Anita Walters. She married the late Ronald Edwards in Kingston Jamaica in 1960 before immigrating to Canada in 1972 where she raised 11 children; Errol (Marcia), Lydia (Kevin), Archie, Novelette, Patricia, Elsie (Robert), Christine, Maureen (Jarvis) and Sandra (Conroy), Natasha (Mitch), Melissa. Inez was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as grandmother to her 26 grandchildren; Xavier, Donnell, Dominique, Kadeem, Shaniqua, Aisha, Kameshia, Shaneece, Tyrelle, Malik, Darryan, Tryeshawna, Shairone, Shamorah, Angelique, Deneilla, Sashayla, Breanna, Tyesha, Nylah, Keira, Jurelle, Darius and Zia, Kenrick, Selasi, Dela, Eme, And13 great-grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by family.
Undereducated, she was wise beyond any accredited certificate, people respected her advice and benefited from her counsel. She will be missed greatly by her family but also everyone else who had the pleasure of meeting her or calling her a friend. She was a nanny for two years before settling into housekeeping at St. Boniface General Hospital for 29 years. A devout member of the Protestant denomination for most of her life, she served as a friend to hundreds, a sister to many, and a mother to all. She brought joy, wisdom, love and strength to everyone and anyone she came in contact with. She will be remembered for her vivacious personality that always made people around her laugh. An animal lover at heart, she dearly loved her adored dog Joèe.
In her later years, when health robbed her of her independence, it also gave her a strength we all admired. During this time, she taught us resilience and allowed us to show her kindness and a small measure of compassion she had long showed all of us.
Inez was an amazing mother, mother in-law, grandmother, greatgrandmother. She was the matriarch of the family. She held the family together, made sure we all got together on special occasions. She was one of the most generous, loving and strongest women we knew. She instilled in her children a value of family because she always said we were stronger together than apart. She taught us to be independent, kind, strong and to be happy with the little things in life. There will never be anyone who can replace her. The strength she showed on a daily basis was incredible. We loved her and we’ ll miss her every second of forever and a day. She always made the best of every moment. It was time for her to feel nothing but joy, so God decided to bring her back home. We now have a guardian angel watching over us.
She was preceded in death by her mother Anita Walters, father Vernal Walters, one sister Susan Walters, one brother Alvin Walters and beloved daughter Patricia Chambers.
Inez leaves to cherish her memory two sisters Pearline Mitchell, Mae (Austin) Frances, one brother Winston Walters, and countless nieces and nephews
