Obituary of ANNE NAZAREVICH

ANNE NAZAREVICH May 1, 1926 - January 14, 2020 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Nazarevich, our dear mother and grandmother (Baba). Anne was born on May 1, 1926 in Goodeve, Saskatchewan to Fred and Rosie (nee Pilipow) Machula. She grew up on her parents’ farm near Goodeve and attended Stryj School. After completing school, Anne moved to Winnipeg where she attended Success Business College and worked as a secretary. Anne met her husband, Alexander Nazarevich, in 1950 while singing in the choir at St Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the couple married on June 27, 1950. The couple was blessed with four children and eleven grandchildren. Anne was widowed with the passing of her beloved husband, Alexander, in November 1976. At that time all of Anne’s four children were still students in university and Anne devoted herself to supporting her children so that they could complete their studies and graduate. Anne was always very interested in all aspects of Ukrainian language and culture and took numerous courses on Ukrainian topics at the University of Manitoba in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Anne then obtained employment as an Educational Assistant in the English-Ukrainian bilingual program in the Seven Oaks School Division, a position that she worked at for 21 years. Anne retired as an Educational Assistant in 2001 but still continued to assist as a volunteer in the classroom of her daughter, Alexandra, who also taught in the English-Ukrainian bilingual program. At the time that she retired, Anne also sold the family home in North Kildonan which had been built by her husband, Alexander, with the help of his father and brother and moved into a condominium in Garden City. Anne enjoyed her condo very much as it was close to numerous amenities. The condo made garden plots available to owners to plant their own gardens and Anne planted and tended a garden each year during the time she lived in the condo building. Anne was determined to stay active all of her life as long as possible. She belonged to Curves Fitness Club for a number of years, generally going in to exercise at 6:30 AM and made over 800 visits to Curves. Anne sang in the choir of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and was a member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada for over 50 years. Anne also enjoyed attending meetings of the church Seniors’ Club and enthusiastically participated in whatever activities were going on including weaving, exercising, slide shows and other activities. Most of all however Anne enjoyed people and interacting with people. She was always such a positive force in the lives of those who knew her. Anne is survived by her four children, Alann of Edmonton, Alexius (Debbie) of Port Moody, BC, Jule and Alexandra (Taras Maluzynsky) of Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Alexander, her parents Fred and Rosie Machula, her sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and John Pankiw, sister Olga and brothers, Willie and Joseph. We extend our deep appreciation to the medical professionals at the St. Boniface General Hospital and especially the staff of A7 south for the kind and thoughtful care given to our mother, Anne. Donations in Anne’s memory may be made to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral or to a charity of your choice. Нехай Бог відкриє її Царство Небесне! May God open the Kingdom of Heaven to her! Вічная пам’ять! May her memory be eternal!
