Obituary of ALEKSY SIKORA
ALEKSY (ALEX) SIKORA
On Wednesday, February 26, 2020 Alex Sikora peacefully left us to meet the Lord at the age of 91.
Alex was born on July 27, 1928 in Zloty Potok, Poland. He immigrated to Canada from Poland with his family, sponsored by his brother Eugene arriving in Winnipeg on October 4, 1961.
Alex is survived by his three children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Leslie (Veronique), Anna (Larry Beeston), Elizabeth Greenhalgh (Don) and grandchildren Alysa (Andrew), Laura, Scott (Rebecca), James (Carly) Katie and Jonathan, great grandchildren Autumn, Aiden and Archer, and extended family.
Alex was predeceased by his first wife Janina on January 15, 1995. They were together for 44 years. He was also predeceased by his parents Mikolaj and Matylda, two brothers Eugene and Janek and two sisters Sabina and Josefa.
Alex is survived by his wife Amelia Bartlinski, who he marries on October 19, 1997.
Alex enjoyed travelling to many places including Hawaii, London, Switzerland, Las Vegas, Chicago, Duluth and Bemidji. His last trip to Poland was in 2004 to visit family.
Alex worked as a pipe fitter at C.P.R. until his retirement after which Alex worked as a carpenter/cabinet maker utilizing skills he was trained for in Poland. Alex was an active member and supporter of many Polish organizations including the Royal Canadian Legion, Winnipeg, Polish Canadian Branch #246 and St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church.
Family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge for their care, kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
Celebration of Life will be held Friday March 6, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main St. with interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main St.
We will miss you Dziadzi.
