Obituary of MARY BILAN

Obituary of Mary Bilan Mary Bilan (Warachka) 81 years, just 1 week shy of turning 82, passed peacefully on 15th of April 2020, at her home in Winnipeg, MB. Mary was pre-deceased by her son Donald and her brother Rudy. Left to cherish her memory are her husband George, son George, daughter Sharon, Son in law Manny, grandsons Shawn and Matthew. Memories of Mary will be cherished by her remaining siblings Ann, Mike, Joe and Fran. Marie was born on April 21, 1938 in Ratnovce, Slovakia. Her family moved to Canada in the fall of that year. She grew up on a farm in Malonton, Mb. She completed high school at St. Benedict's Academy in Arborg, Mb. and then moved to Winnipeg. Shortly after, she met and married her husband George, and they raised 3 children together. She excelled at homemaking, knitting and sewing. One of her many passions included cooking, from baked goods such as pies, to lasagnas and canned fruits and vegetables, right from the garden. Often times you would find Marie gardening as she had quite the green thumb. She enjoyed puttering with all kinds of knickknacks, especially when her grandchildren came to visit. She would make sure that there was some type of fixer upper activity for them, whether it be in the back yard or in the garage. Marie was an active member of St. Anne's Church. She was a member of the Ukrainian Women’s Catholic League, and taught Catechism over the years. Her family paid this tribute to her, ‘Marie was one of the kindest persons you’ve ever meet, she opened her heart and her home to many over the years. She enjoyed sharing a hot coffee with anyone who passed through her door. She will be sorely missed.’ Her funeral service held on Saturday April 25, 2020 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, followed by interment at Holy Family Cemetery. Due to recent events, this will be held for immediate family only. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date when it safe to do so.
