Obituary of Joao Machado Tavares de Melo
JOAO MACHADO TAVARES de MELO
Peacefully on April 27, 2020, Joao Machado Tavares de Melo passed away to join his wife, Carmelia, who predeceased him 7 months ago. He was also predeceased by his parents and siblings, and leaves behind his brother, Manuel, from Brampton, Ontario. He also leaves behind his son, Roger, daughter-in-law Marlene, grandson Michael, daughter Fatima, sister-in-law Manuela da Costa, and many nieces and nephews.
Joao left Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal for Canada in 1957. He worked for CN starting with the rail gangs before retiring as a Carman at CN’s Symington Yards in 1989. He was a man of few, sometimes no words, but whose deeds spoke louder. Joao gave generously to family when needed whether it’s his hands for a home project or car rides. He was a hardworking and practical man, yet ready to joke and loved to laugh.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a burial has already taken place, however, there are plans for a Funeral Mass once they are eased in the future. In lieu of flowers, we ask people to donate to Holy Names House of Peace on 211 Edmonton Street. Finally, the family thanks the staff at Poseidon Personal Care home for their care during his stay.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)
A Memorial Tree was planted for Joao
