I write to express to your family the sincere condolences of the Patricias on the passing of Nick Smerechynski. I cannot say that I ever met this fine soldier, for of course his service predates mine by two generations! But Canada and the Regiment remember Nick's service, and the family is obviously proud of that service. Nick's name will be read in this year’s list of the lost when we read that list out this November in the Scared Space in Beechwood, the National Military Cemetery, Ottawa. His name will also be listed in the 2020 edition of the Patrician’s Last Post section.
We are glad that Nick had such a vibrant family and a good life after the army. His obituary certainly says so.
We hope you and your family can heal from death and that you remember him fondly as a soldier as well as all tghe other roles he had in a full life. Thank you all.
Brigadier-General Vince Kennedy
Colonel of the Regiment
Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry
