Obituary of MARIA SOARES

MARIA LEONILDE SOARES Maria Leonilde Soares passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at St. Boniface Hospital on November 17, 2012 at the age of 71. Maria Leonilde Soares was predeceased by her parents, José and Conceiçao Medeiros. Maria Leonilde Soares is survived by her loving husband João, of 48 years. They were married in São Miguel, Açores on April 23, 1964. Maria Leonilde is lovingly remembered by her husband João, daughters, Connie and son-in-law Gerald, Maria (Arthur), Carolina (Phillip), Susie (Jason), and grandchildren, Calum, Nora, Luke and Erik, she is also survived by her 3 sisters, 2 brothers and her mother in-law. Maria Leonilde was born in São Miguel, Açores, Portugal on December 5, 1940. Maria Leonilde enjoyed spending time with her family, she loved watching and playing with her grandchildren, she was an avid gardener and cook, who enjoyed the simple pleasures of preparing meals fresh from her garden. She lived her life, appreciating the simple things and bestowed on her children the value of hard work, honesty and respect for self and others. She believed in living in harmony and in peace with her fellow man. The family would like to thank the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit 8th floor for all their care and compassion. Prayers will be said at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin Street, on Wednesday, November 21 at 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Thursday, November 22 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Andre Lico officiating. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue West. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Canadian Red Cross Society or to the Children’s Hospital.
