Obituary of LUCY ROWINSKI

LUCY ROWINSKI Peacefully, surrounded by family in her home, our beloved wife, mother, and Babcia (Babi) Lucy Rowinski passed away on July 24, 2020 at the age of 79. Lucy was predeceased by her parents Bogumila & Jan Pietrowicz, Aunt Mary, sisters Flora, Zosia, Mary, Helen and brother Roman; Brothers-in-law Eugene, Mike, Walter, Don, and Sister-in-law Donna. Lucy leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 59 years Steve Rowinski, daughters Kathy (Richard) and Barb (Robb), and her cherished grandchildren Daniel, Josh, Julia, Luke, Ryan, Alex & Janel. Also left to cherish Lucy’s memory, sister Pola and family in Sopot, Poland, nieces Donna (Branko), Jeanne (Wally); In-laws, Hedy (Dean), Mary, Zenobia, Donna (Allan) & Barb (Marcel). Also left to mourn are great nieces and nephews Michael (Bonnie), Lisa, Andrew, Wally, Ed, Irene, Aly (Rory) and Tim (Chynna). Lucy was born in Zabno, Poland on June 28th, 1941, the youngest of seven children. Although her family struggled with poverty after the second world war, Lucy often spoke fondly of her childhood and cherished the many life-skills her parents taught her. At the young age of 16, Lucy bravely immigrated to Canada in search of a better life with the help of her sister Helen and Aunt Mary. Lucy was always very grateful for the opportunity to come to Canada. Upon arrival, she was quickly enrolled in school and began her first job at Greb Shoes. Lucy excelled in school, and although she never had the opportunity to attend post-secondary school, she always valued the importance of education. On her 18th birthday, Lucy met the love of her life Steve, whom she married in 1961. They created a beautiful life together and raised two wonderful daughters, Kathy and Barb. While raising a family was a job in itself, Lucy also worked at Clifford’s Ladies Wear and Seven Oaks Daycare. She enjoyed working with the children and families of the daycare, and remained close with many of her co-workers over the years. Lucy also had many hobbies including cooking, baking, sewing and gardening to name a few. Her favourite pass time was spending time with her grandchildren; Lucy’s grandchildren held a very special place in her heart as she was very proud and supportive of all their aspirations and achievements. Lucy was also a member of Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church where she served as a lector and a Catechism teacher for many years. Faith was a very important part of her life, especially in this past year when she faced many health challenges. Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Parish on August 7th at 11:00 a.m. A live stream of the Mass will be available through www.holyghost.ca .
