Obituary of SAMUEL PATRICK-TYRESE EDWARDS

Samuel Patrick-Tyrese Edwards was born August 6, 2012 at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa Florida, United States of America to Claudia and Patrick Edwards. He lived in Bradenton, Florida with Mom, Aunt and Uncle and cousins until he was two months old, then his mom returned to Jamaica. Samuel resided in St Catherine, Jamaica for four months with his mother and Godmother Paulette. His caregiver at the time was Auntie Fae who cared for him while his mother worked. Auntie Fae referred to Sammy as, “Mr Samuel”, and she ensure that his meals were always ready and waiting. Godmother Paulette usually pick-up Samuel from his caregiver everyday, but one evening when the usual pickup was made Samuel arrived home and there was no electricity. Samuel voiced his displeasure by screaming and it was obvious the Samuel did not like the dark, and he let it be known. Samuel was christened at the East Queen Baptist Church in Kingston, Jamaica when he was four months old. He had Godmothers: Paulette Brown, Debbie Bryan and Godfathers Cornel Jackson and Richard Ranger. Samuel continued to attend church with his parents and had several self-appointed grandmothers at church. Samuel’s parents relocated to Kingston, and he also received a new caregiver named Sister Faye. He has great relationship with Sister Faye who was always dancing for him. She cared for Samuel until he was two years old, and periodically after that if his Mom and Dad had special occasion that he could not attend. He started kindergarten at Kidz in Paradise Development Centre at age two years old. He was described as adventurous (as he loved to climb}, quiet, and smart. Samuel was involved in sports days, etiquette day, heritage day and the sign language group. Samuel spoke eloquently and could not express himself in the Jamaican dialect which sometimes when he tried would often sound amusing to his teachers. Samuel graduated in July 2018 and migrated to Canada with his father to join his mom. Samuel started school in grade one at ecole Lavrendrye although he was excited about his new school there were several adjustments for him. He had to make new friends, coped with learning a new language, dressing for the weather and snow. Despite all the changes Samuel never complained but adjusted to the different life style. He adapted to the weather and loved snow like a true Winnipegger. Sometimes he teased his Dad who complained about the cold. His time at the school was one year only because he was faced with several incidences of bullying. During his first school year he started the Fort Rouge Daycare Center which provided a safe haven for Samuel. He loved the Daycare so much he wanted to be there seven days a week. He had great caregivers, loving and kind friends. He learnt to be creative by making all types of things from paper and other materials. He was always proud of the things that he created and loved to bring them home to showcase. He also loved to draw and you never disturb Samuel when he is focusing on his drawings, he would ignore you all the way. His love for Art grew and he would always allot time to draw whether at home, daycare or whenever he had a quiet time. Samuel changed school to ecole Riverview School September 2019 in grade two which was closer to home. Samuel and mom walked to school during the fall in the mornings and Dad did the pickups in the evenings. During these walks Samuel would identify all the expensive cars such as Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Audi, Range Rover and BMW. He was also specific about the speed of the cars, whether there was Turbo engine, and the type of rims. When Samuel have library day at least two of Samuel’s books must be about cars and Mom or Dad must read with him about his car. He loved music because he would expressed himself in singing, dancing and having a good laugh. He showed interest in playing musically instrument such as the guitar. Keyboard and drum. Gym time was wonderful for Samuel as he got the opportunity to play basketball and do all the funny stuff. Samuel was very sociable, friendly, and always have smile at school. Samuel started his after-school program at the YMCA where he learnt swimming, and basketball. He was super excited to the point that he was giving us swimming and basketball lessons. The Y as it is called was loved by Samuel because there was the children program that gave him opportunity to meet several others kids that he can always play with as he was an only child at home. Samuel enjoyed travelling to the stores with mom because while mom was grocery shopping he was toy shopping. There was always toys on Sammy’s list and he always identify the toy sections of the store. Mommy would often time be chasing Sammy in the Stores and the toy or toys would be selected first. In order to steer Sammy away from to the toy section first, Mom decided to negotiate with Samuel, so the Grocery would be purchase first and then there would be toy shopping. He cooperated and even started helping Mom to shop for groceries mainly for himself. Samuel specialized in mostly toy cars that are used for racing and it was never enough. Samuel at home was a force to reckon as he was never afraid to express himself. He tell mom and Dad his wants and needs such as Mom: type of breakfast, piggy backs after his showers, bedtime stories, Dad: competing with fortnite toys, playing music and both dancing to the beat. Samuel at home was like ten children in the house. He would be racing his many cars, he built a track for them to run on and even if Mom or Dad join the game Samuel will always be the winner. When Samuel have friends over him would share his toys and was super excited. Sometimes Sammy take his toys to school give or lend to other kids who were his friends. Samuel was quiet at home when it was tablet time, and he loved his tablet. Take the tablet and Samuel would do his homework quickly and all the school work he needs to do. He loved tablet, cell phone and computers. The main games he plays on his tablet was Roblax or minecraft. Samuel loved church as he learned about the Lord Jesus Christ, and was very involved by asking questions. Samuel loved his friends at church and played basketball after church. Although a few of his friend are twice his age Samuel considered them his friend and not even Daddy can separate them. Samuel favorite song was “When Jesus say yes, nobody can say no” Samuel performed that Song for Church and Sunday school on two different occasions. Samuel was a loving boy and he showed it by protecting the little kids at church. He was also very friendly and easy to talk with. He was never afraid to approach the new kids in church with his smiling face and he was very vocal. If Samuel thinks you attire is inappropriate for church he is not afraid to say so. In December 2019 Samuel was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer he lost the battle on August 10, 2020. Samuel is gone but he will forever remain in the hearts of all those who loved him dearly.
