I am saddened to hear of Richard's passing; I have fond memories of working with him at Oakenwald School where he took such pride in his job well-done. He enjoyed his connections with students and staff and loved to share stories in his friendly ways and with good humour. with caring thoughts and prayers for Richard's family, Elaine Hansen, Oakenwald colleague, 2001-2006

Richard and I became quite close over our time together at Oakenwald. We shared a love of history and story-telling; Richard was keen to share his collection of Egyptian curiosities with my class, and loved to make people laugh with his outlandish stories. I'll miss Richard very much - he was a good listener, a great friend, and a wonderful man to work with. - Matt Reimer

My first memory of Peter was that he was the most beautiful baby, and that I dearly wanted him to be my baby brother. Alas I had to settle as being his cousin. We grew up together, and were a close family sharing all special occasions. Peter was not one for big crowds, and much preferred hanging out with our children in later years, or sitting in a quiet corner talking with one or two of us. A fond memory of ours is a poignant tale of Felix the mouse and our Peter. When asked about his responsibilities as head custodian, Peter, never one to boast or draw attention to himself, told us instead about a little mouse he befriended during his lunch breaks at the school. Each day the little creature would receive a few crumbs from Pete's lunch. This sharing continued for some time, and thus the mouse got the name Felix. His kindness to all living things is what stands out as one of Peter's great character strengths. You are in our hearts and memories until we meet again. Cornelia, Art and family.

I’ve had the privilege of calling Pete a friend. I lived on St John’s till about 7 years old then moved. I remained friends with him through my cousins over the years. Here I enclose a picture of Pete with “the old gang” at a social about 10 years ago. He will be missed. Good night my friend. ~ Cheryl Sawka
