Obituary of LYDIA KULCHESKI

LYDIA KULCHESKI May 24, 1924 – November 9, 2020 Peacefully with her children at her side our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother passed in the evening hours at Grace Hospital on November 9, 2020. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Walter in June 2009. She was also predeceased by her Father Alexis Krawchuk, her Mother Annastasia Krawchuk; her Sister Nadia; her Brothers Fred, George, Michael and Paul left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are Lydia’s Daughter, Dayle (Bruce), Son Randy, Grandchildren Paige (Brian) and Steven, Great Grandchildren Drake and Nova, Sister in law Shirley and many nieces and nephews. Lydia was born in Druszkopol, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1936 with her parents and four Brothers. After arriving in Halifax they took the train to Winnipeg. The family settled in Ste. Anne, Manitoba where Lydia attended a one room school (Caledonia School). Later moving to Winnipeg and working in a sewing factory for a few years before moving to Montreal and working as a waitress. In 1948 Lydia proudly became a Canadian citizen. Lydia met Walter in April 1951 and they were married in November 1951. They raised their family in Winnipeg. Lydia loved gardening and her flowers, especially roses. Her other passions were reading, bowling and getting together with family and friends, particularly for card games, as well as her weekly bingo game with the girls. As the family grew weekends were spent camping/fishing, visiting relatives and fun filled outings. Lydia worked part time at Eatons and then at the post office for years during Christmas. Lydia and Walter built a cottage at Bird Lake. The fishing, wildlife and friendships made many memorable times. Lydia and Walter purchased property in Anola for a Country get away after selling the cottage. Gardens were planted, as well as the hundreds of trees around the property. During this time trips were taken to California out East, Vancouver, Alaska, and Europe. In retirement, Lydia and Walter spent a Winter in Los Angeles, a Winter in Palm Springs and 15 in Arizona. Lydia loved children, animals and birds which gave her much joy in later years. Her birds, squirrels and chipmunks were all fed, as were all the pets she had throughout her life, Trixie, Chico, Black Jack and Sandy. Special thanks to the homecare folks that have looked after Lydia over the last few years, especially Lucy who has provided such compassionate and loving care. Special thanks to Fred Douglas Lodge for the wonderful seniors day program which she missed dearly during the pandemic. Lydia was a loving human being and will be deeply missed by us all. Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19, a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
