Obituary of ROBERT DRALL

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Drall of Winnipeg, on November 2nd, 2020 at the age of 90 years. The family wish to thank the dedicated staff of the Grace Hospital, who made his last moments comfortable and allowed his immediate family to visit with him virtually through electronic media.

Robert (Bob) began his career at the City of Winnipeg but quickly moved to Winnipeg Hydro where he spent over 30 years before retiring in 1987. He finished his career as an electric troubleman which he loved as it fit his personality of “Mr. Fixit”. He enjoyed body building, did some amateur wrestling, and never turned down a job which earned him the affectionate nickname of “Hoss” by his coworkers.

In addition to always fixing things or taking things apart, Bob had amazing artistic talent. He was unable to pursue this talent due to having to go to work at a young age, so it became a hobby where he provided drawings and paintings to friends, family, and others.

Bob married the love of his life, Margaret, in 1957 and celebrated their 63rd anniversary prior to him becoming ill. Bob had two sons, Darrin of Calgary, and Darcy of Winnipeg. He was a family of all boys with nephews on both sides until his beloved granddaughters arrived, Kelsea and Ashleigh, also of Calgary.

Bob loved his garden, working around the house, reading, playing games and cards, watching movies, and cheering on his Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers. He was popular and well liked by his neighbours where he was always willing to lend a hand and after retirement, he spent time volunteering with various organizations. However, most of all, he enjoyed spending time with all his family. He especially looked forward to visiting with his granddaughters in the summer and on holidays where they spent time talking, laughing, and playing games together.

Bob struggled with many ailments over the last 2 years but managed to fight through them due to his love of his wife and family. Unfortunately, the fight with COVID-19 was one that he did not win. He was predeceased by his father, Peter and mother, Anna. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, his sons Darrin (Gisele), Darcy (Lucainn), his granddaughters Kelsea and Ashleigh, his brother Ed (Olga), his nephews and other extended family.

Bob/Dad/Grandpa will be missed and always loved by his family, friends, neighbours, and acquaintances that got to know him.

Many thanks to Seven Oaks Hospital and Day Hospital, the PRIME Program and River Ridge 2 who helped Bob over the last few years and months. Everyone that knew him or met him characterized him as a kind and gentle man. .

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Ave.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to a charity of your choice.
