JOSEPH (JOE) MAXOM

Obituary of JOSEPH (JOE) MAXOM

JOSEPH (JOE) CHARLES MAXOM November 09, 1915 – November 30, 2012 It is with deepest sadness and great sorrow the family announces the passing of our Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather and Uncle; Joe Maxom on Friday November 30 at age 97. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 70 years Carole; son Kenneth (Barb) Maxom; daughters Susan (George) de Denus and Linda Maxom (James McCallum); grandchildren Kristin Maxom (Mark Wiebe), Jeremy Maxom, Erin de Denus; and great grandchildren Amina Maxom-Wiebe and Callum Maxom-Wiebe; plus niece Marilyn (Don) and nephew Brian Maxim. Dad was pre-deceased by his parents Anna and Nicola Maksymowich, brothers Edward, Steve and Metro. Joe was born and grew up on the family farm in the Camp Morton area north of Gimli, spending his early years helping out on the farm and creating and inventing numerous devices to make their family life easier. Even at an early age, Dad showed a tremendous aptitude for understanding how things worked and were put together. Working with wood was one of his passions. Dads early working years were in construction where he gained extensive knowledge in building techniques and how to make things that would last forever. Dad was hired by Trans Canada Airlines (later Air Canada) as a carpenter and quickly progressed to a position of lead carpenter. His extensive construction knowledge led to the position of Supervisor of Buildings and Maintenance for Western Canada. It was his employment with the airline that allowed both Mom & Dad (also occasionally the children) to take numerous holidays throughout Canada and the world. He retired in 1974 after 29 years of service. After his retirement Mom and Dad continued to travel as members of the TCA/Air Canada Pionairs retirement club. Dad’s telling and retelling of the jokes he had read and heard was legendary. If you asked him a question and he did not readily have the accurate answer he would investigate/research/examine and look into the proper answer. Dad was a past member of St. Joe’s Men’s Club and St. Anthony’s Social Club. In his later years Joe was able to provide a loving and caring environment for his wife Carole who is a resident of Luther Personal Care Home. The Family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of 3-U6 at Seven Oaks Hospital A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, on Friday December 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm.
