Obituary of VICTOR ANDREW LOBOZ

VICTOR ANDREW LOBOZ August 11, 1937 – November 21, 2020 With heavy hearts, our family announces the passing of Victor Andrew Loboz, 83, on Saturday, November 21, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Agnieszka, cherished sons Conrad and Jason (Michelle), treasured grandchildren Brandon, Jordan, and Gracelyn. Also left to mourn are brother-in-law Dan, nieces and nephew Carole (Doug), Jocelyn (Ric), Eric, and Valerie (Andras), great niece and nephews India, Andy, Liam, and Max, as well as many dear relatives across Canada, Poland and Germany. He was predeceased by parents Jozef and Karolina (nee Miller), and sister Corinne in 2017. Vic was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandpa who always made time to be with his family. He was incredibly proud of his grandkids and was so happy to spend time with them. Vic was a tremendous role model who always treated others with respect while his sense of humour, prankster ways, and smile became his trademarks. He truly was the life of the party and our family will certainly feel the void left behind, especially at Christmas, when he would pull out the accordion he had since his youth and play a mix of carols, polkas, and waltzes as well as some originals by ear. Vic was born in his family home on Bannerman Ave in Winnipeg and grew up a proud north end boy, attending Faraday and Isaac Newton schools. While living there, he met his friend Al Zaporozan, with whom he would remain close for over 60 years. In 1959, he began his career with the Winnipeg Fire Department. He was a hard working, knowledgeable, and caring firefighter, eventually working up the ranks to become a District Chief, a role he retired in after 37 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Winnipeg. In the fire station, he loved to joke around and ensure everyone knew they were a part of the team. He was a fair and strong leader of which many of his colleagues have expressed to our family that they loved to work with and for him. After retirement, he became a member of 5 Platoon where he was able to socialize with other retirees. He was a board member of the Fire Fighters Museum of Winnipeg and volunteered with the Salvation Army, serving meals at pancake breakfasts, delivering toys for Toy Mountain, and operating the 711 truck. Vic married Agnes in 1974, leading to the north end boy moving south, purchasing a home in St. Vital where they raised their boys. In 1991, they went further south into the St. Germain community where they built a home on a small acreage. Vic truly enjoyed spending his time there whether it was hopping on his tractor and working the garden, enjoying a coffee on the deck, playing with the family dog Billy, or keeping an eye on his grandkids playing in the kiddie pool. Vic loved to travel if he could drive to wherever he was going. Sometimes it was in the RV or camper van, or just the station wagon pulling a tent trailer. No matter where he would travel, or with who, it was always a memorable experience to be going with him. Cremation has taken place as per Victor’s wishes. A small private service will be held at this time with a full service and celebration of his life on a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in his name to the St. Amant Foundation via their website or the Fire Fighters Museum of Winnipeg, 56 Maple St., R3B 0Y8. Our family would like to express our appreciation to his nurses, doctors, and aides at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion.
