Obituary of ANASTASIA "NELLIE" NAKONECHNY
ANASTASIA (NELLIE) NAKONECHNY
JANUARY 25, 1934 – JANUARY 24, 2021
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother at the Grace Hospital after a brief courageous battle with pneumonia and congestive heart failure on January 24, 2021 only 20 minutes shy of her 87th birthday.
Anastasia leaves to mourn her passing, daughter Geri (Pat), daughter Pat (Michael), granddaughter Tammy (Kenny), grandson Ray, granddaughter Melissa, granddaughter Tiffany, great-granddaughter Dallas (Brian), great-grandson Jaydan, great-great granddaughter Summer, sister Olga, sister-in-law Frances, sister-in-law Diane, kitty-cats Sweet-Pea and Knacker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mother was predeceased by her parents Katie and Steve, her husband Michael, daughter Rosemarie, son-in-law Sam, brother John (sister-in-law Katie) brother William, brother Mike, sister Mary (brother-in-law Peter), brother Alec and brother Russell; nephew Mervin and kitty-cat Phiona.
Mom was a strong, caring and courageous determined woman-entering this world on the family homestead in the dead of winter a mere 3 pounds.
In 2017 when she suffered a heart attack and strokes, we were told there was no hope for her, that she was not going to make it-but she did and lived at home until her death 3 years later.
Mom had the special ability to make honey out of vinegar. Whatever life threw at her she faced it head on. When she was widowed with 3 children, she managed to raise us on a shoe-string budget. When her beloved husband Michael developed Alzheimer’s, she cared for him for 10 years until he passed away.
Mom loved making and hosting big family dinners, canning, knitting, crocheting, gardening, going to church and going on long walks with her daughter Geri. However, her pride and joy were her children and her husband Michael whom she married in 1973.
As mom got older and her health started to fail, she developed different interests. She enjoyed going to the day program, to the casino, playing with the cats and looking at royal magazines. She also enjoyed when home care would come, she thought of them as visitors.
We would like to thank Holy Family Adult Day Program and home care for all the help and joy they gave mom and thank you to the Grace emergency staff for their compassionate care and a special thanks to Joyce, mom’s favourite health care aide.
Private prayers and service are for family and by invitation only. Evening prayers will be held on Tuesday, February 02, 2021 at 7:00pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street. Funeral Service to be held on Wednesday February 03 at 11:00am, also at the Chapel.
