Obituary of FRANCES ELIZABETH BUXTON
FRANCES ELIZABETH BUXTON
nee Howell
On Thursday, February 25, 2021 Frances Elizabeth Buxton (nee Howell) passed away peacefully in her home.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Jim and her daughter Janice. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Maureen (Harry), her son Jim (Deb) her son-in-law Angus. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Andrea (Michael), Geoffrey, Kory (Becky), Jamie, and Stephanie (Mike) and her great grandchildren: Rowan, Harlyn and Tofino. She is survived by her brother Ben (Joy) Howell, her sister-in-law Joanne Gratton (Ron), many family members, relatives and friends.
Frances was born August 29,1926 to Lillian and Samuel Howell. Frances was a true Transcona girl- born and raised and where she met the love of her life- Jim. Frances and Jim were married July 12, 1947. They started their family on “South Side” where they lived for many years. Mom spent most of her time raising their 3 children and managing their household. She spent most summers at the family cottage at Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell where she could be found in the bush picking blueberries. Frances had a variety of hobbies and pastimes that kept her busy. She enjoyed knitting for friends and family, volunteering at the South Side Community club, cheering from the bleachers, baking for the church, and supporting local projects. Frances and Jim loved to dance to the tunes from the “Big Band’ era. They travelled across Canada visiting with family and friends. They enjoyed trips that involved Navy reunions and the usual dark rum and coke. Frances was a member of the Transcona Legion and enjoyed the Saturday meat draws and the Wednesday night dart league. Frances was a faithful member of St. Georges Anglican Church, Transcona.
The family was grateful for the Home Care Mom received that allowed her to remain in her home. Mom was especially fond of Dawn and Lynn- thank you for your care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Frances’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba.
