Obituary of JANINA RUNGE
Janina Runge
March 15, 1923 – March 5, 2021
With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of Janina Runge, 97, at the St. Boniface Hospital on Friday, March 5, 2021.
Janina was born on March 15,1923, in Jelena Gora, Poland, where she grew up on a farm on the Visla River through the Great Depression, until she was deported for three years during WWII to work in Germany. She immigrated to Canada where she met and married Vladimir (Walter) on April 28, 1951. During her lifetime, Janina was a member of the Sokol Gymnastics Association, SPK, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 246, and a parishioner of St. John Cantius Parish.
Janina will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Anna (Walter) Rychkrand, Jean (Dennis) Weselowski, Mary (Lyall) Pelland, and Stan Runge (Lorraine Campbell), grandchildren Michael (Kelly) Runge, Vanessa (Mike) Buchko, Walter (Candace) Weselowski, Matthew (Lynn) Weselowski, James (Sara) Weselowski, Nick Weselowski (Jayne Keller), Louisa Pelland, Derek (Chantelle) Pelland, and Solana Pelland, and great grandchildren Alexander, Cameron, Daniel, Nathan, Arabelle, Raleigh, David, Luciana, and Wyatt. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanislaw and Jozefa, and then Dzadziu on October 18, 1996, and leaves extended family in Poland to mourn her loss.
Viewing will be held at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, on Thursday, March 25th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Due to Covid restrictions, groups of 10 will be permitted for 20 minutes, followed by disinfectant cleaning before the arrival of the next group. Should you wish to attend, please contact Jean at (204) 339-1866 to arrange a time that’s convenient for you. Please leave a message on the voice mail if necessary and we will return your call to confirm. We ask those at risk or those not feeling well to please stay home, but to visit the Tribute Wall on Janina’s page. Masks are mandatory, social distancing will be required, and contact information will be collected.
A Funeral Service officiated by Rev. Fr. Henryk S. Laciak will be held via livestream at Cropo on Friday, March 26, 2021. The link will be provided on their website for a 10:00 a.m. Service. Internment will follow at the Holy Ghost Cemetery where Covid restrictions regretfully prohibit more than the family to be in attendance.
Pallbearers will be Michael Runge, Walter Weselowski, Matthew Weselowski, Nick Weselowski, Mike Buchko, and Lyall Pelland. Honorary pallbearers will be James Weselowski and Derek Pelland.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Should you wish, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of MB, or a charity of your choice.
The family wish to extend their thanks to the staff at the St. Boniface and Victoria Hospitals for their care and attention during this already challenging time.
