Obituary of SAMUEL (SAM) GLOWA
SAMUEL (SAM) GLOWA
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Sam Glowa on Saturday, December 15, 2012, surrounded by his family in Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 90 years.
Sam was born in Gimli on November 28, 1922 to Barbara and Michael Glowa and grew up on the family farm in Gimli. Sam met Mary Hawryluk on July 1, 1944 at Wpg. Beach Amusement Park and were married August 30, 1947 in Dnister Church – Gimli MB and moved to Winnipeg. He worked as a truck driver for a millwork company while learning the millwork trade. He then worked at several different companies perfecting his skills as a moulder operator and in 1966, along with his wife Mary, established Inkster Park Millwork which continues to be family operated today. Sam continued to work on the shop floor as recently as 2 years ago.
Sam conducted his business as he did his life, with honesty, integrity and a great measure of hard work. Family was always first for Sam and he took great pride in the accomplishments of his sons. Sam and Mary were fortunate to travel a great deal over the years and enjoyed the company of good friends. This past August they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Left to cherish Dad’s memory are his wife Mary, sons Gary, Ron (Donna), Terry (Marjie) and Michael (Sherry), 6 grandchildren who are honored to serve as their grandfather’s pallbearers, Cary, Lindsay, Scott, Karsen, Sam and Lacey, and 2 great grandchildren Oliver and Benjamin. Also left to mourn are Sam’s brother John (Cecilia), sister Sonia (Lawrence) Patzel as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Lena, Marie and Ann, brothers Walter, Peter, Joe and William.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital who took such good care of Dad in his final days. The family also wishes to convey our appreciation and gratitude for all the prayers, words of encouragement, cards and expressions of sympathy received from family and friends.
Prayers will be held Thursday, December 20 at 7:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg. Funeral Liturgy will take place Friday, December 21 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., Winnipeg. Interment to follow at Dnister Cemetery, Gimli, Manitoba.
