Obituary of ANNA DERYCKERE
ANNA DERYCKERE
October 18, 1917 - December 16, 2012
(nee WORONIAK)
It is with much sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom Anna, age 95, on December 16, 2012 at Holy Family Home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Anna was the eldest of three girls born to Elias and Katherine Woroniak. She grew up in East Kildonan and continued to live there until January of 2012 when she had to leave her home due to illness, and became a resident at the Holy Family Home.
Anna met her husband Albert, when she worked in the bake shop at Eaton’s Department Store. They were married on September 2, 1939 and shared 59 wonderful years together.
Anna was extremely talented with her hands. She was an excellent cook and baker. She knitted and crocheted beautifully. There are many less fortunate children in Winnipeg wearing toques, scarves and mittens which she made and donated to charity. She did beautiful needle and petit point pictures, which family members and friends have displayed in their homes.
Mom also had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Her yard was always immaculate; full of beautiful flowers (she grew the most beautiful begonias and gladiolas every year) and a vegetable garden which yielded enough for her and other family members and friends.
Anna was predeceased by her parents, husband Albert and son Craig, as well as her two sisters Olive Bryck and Lovine Masek.
She leaves to mourn her daughter Laurayne Rusak and Husband Ron; four grandchildren; Melissa (Greg), Marni (Chad), Marcia (Perry), and Matthew, as well as four great-grandchildren; Aydan, Lilli, Camryn, and Nate; a brother-in-law Richard DeRyckere in Ottawa and a cousin Helen Prost who also resides at Holy Family Home.
We will be forever grateful to the wonderful staff and caregivers who with their dedication, compassion, and love looked after Mom for the last eleven months, and especially during her final days. Our gratitude also goes out to the WRHA Palliative Care Team, especially Dr. Wong and Nurse Brenda for their visits and making her passage comfortable in her own room in Holy Family Home. You will always be in our hearts.
We would also like to thank the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, especially Sister Charlene for their visits, prayers and support during mom’s stay at the home, particularly over the last few months.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish, 264 Donwood Drive on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Joseph Lourdusamy, OFM Cap. as Celebrant. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association (Manitoba Division) or to the Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave.
