SHIRLEY PAULINE DANYLCHUK

(NEE HENDRICKS)

APRIL 7, 1941 – MARCH 28, 2021
 

 It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Danylchuk, announces her sudden passing on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the age of 79. She is now joyfully reunited in heaven with her husband Robert (Bob) Danylchuk – together in life and spirit for 63 years. She will forever live in the hearts of daughter Paula (Brian), and son Brad (Lolita), cherished grandchildren Declan (16), Braeden (9), and Alexandria (6) as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

She shall always be remembered for her vivacious personality, huge smile, humor, and quick wit.

Shirley left her studies at St. Mary’s Academy in 1958 to accept a position at The Manitoba Telephone System. She thrived on the social life there, loved her coworkers, and the newfound funds to shop at Eaton’s Downtown.  She would save her money to buy her Mom treasures in the clothing and china departments. She left work in 1965 to marry the love of her life, Bob Danylchuk – the man who walked into the Quality Grill where she had a booth with friend Lucy, combed his hair at the counter, and winked at her. That wink led to a strong, loving marriage, two children, and three grandchildren.  She devoted her children’s early years as a stay-at-home Mom. She volunteered countless hours in the school system especially in high school art class where neither of her children took the class but was situated to see both children in their classrooms across the hall. She rejoined the workforce as a merchandiser for Rust Craft Cards, Ferrero Roccella, and then HT Mobility.

Shirley loved to socialize with friends and family at BBQ gatherings and holidays (New Year’s Eve was one of her favorites). She was always considered the life of the party. She loved camping in Bird’s Hill and across the western US and Canada. She also loved the quiet and alone time in reading the Free Press daily, novels, TV, and nightly marathon phone calls with her sister, Patricia, while cuddling with her dog (Smedley).

Shirley had us all believing she would be with us for years to come. Her sudden passing leaves a hole where nightly conversations with her grandchildren and friends occurred. She was not one to use technology, but she did love to converse on her landline telephone. We will miss her reminiscent storytelling, her wit, her passion for reading, her love for animals, her pride for always having her hair and nails styled, her Sunday night dinners of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with her homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

There are many aspects that make a person, and few know all. What we do know and each personally remember of Shirley will be a constant reminder of how to live one’s life with faith, humor, determination and love for those kept close. 

The family will be having a Memorial Service on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at www.cropo.com on Shirley’s obituary page.
