Isabelle was born in Winnipeg, on February 26, 1931 and recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She was the youngest amongst six children. Her father Jack nicknamed her ‘Buddy’, and she was a sincere and loyal friend throughout her life. Isabelle attended General Wolfe Junior High School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. Afterwards, Isabelle joined the book department at the exciting and fast paced Eaton’s store in the heart of Winnipeg. From that time, she had an everlasting love of good books, writers, celebrities, theatre, song, and dance.

Isabelle met her true love, a speckled capped cattleman, Patrick Coughlin at a dance in Selkirk Manitoba. They were married in 1956 and together raised and deeply loved their ‘fabulous five kids’ and ‘eight miracle grandkids’. Each of her grandchildren brought endless joy and pride and in turn Grandma had a tremendously positive impact on their lives.

Isabelle took great pleasure in having parties and events for family and friends, traveling, spending summers at Grand Marais and poolside on Country Club Road. Most of all, she loved her one-on-one time and countless fun, unique adventures with her grandchildren. She was an active volunteer and fundraiser for St. Amant in appreciation for the care and support of son, Gerald. Her sense of community and belonging to Holy Rosary Parish was foundational for her faith and spirituality.

Isabelle was a sparkling bright light with a zest for life. Conversations with Isabelle always included a big smile, a laugh, and a good story. She had an amazing outlook and was an ‘always up for anything’ friend, sister, aunt, mom, and grandma. Isabelle’s friends know what they meant to her by her devotion and kindness. Isabelle was engaging and warm, a remarkable quality which made everyone feel like they were family.

The Coughlin family offers a special thank you to Father Sam Argenziano, and Grace Hospital doctors, nurses, and medical team on Second Floor South for their extraordinary care. Also, to her life-long friends, her close friends, neighbours, relatives, and special friends who helped as travel companions, drivers, and chefs. She was devoted to you all and your support made a difference in her life.

Isabelle, Mom, Grandma and Aunt you will be missed dearly by your entire family and many friends. Amazingly, we take great comfort in knowing that you joined your husband Patrick whom you missed so deeply on your 65th wedding anniversary, April 14, 1956, just in time to enjoy your first dance all over again.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately by family on Thursday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue. Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano celebrating. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, all others are invited to join us via livestream at: https://youtu.be/dk-3IsZR3W8. A celebration of Isabelle’s life will, hopefully, take place later this year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Isabelle’s memory to St. Amant, 440 River Road, Winnipeg, MB, R2M 3Z9 stamant.ca/coughlin.
