Obituary of GRACE NATALIA KARPIAK
GRACE NATALIA KARPIAK (nee Mykytiuk)
1922-2021
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our family matriarch on May 1.
Mom was born December 10, 1922 in Goodeve, SK. She attended College in Saskatoon and while residing at the Mohyla Institute she met her future husband Morris, and married in 1946. Before moving to Winnipeg in 1956, Morris taught at several country schools in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, while Grace taught school girls home economics, etiquette, and playing mandolin. Together they became lifelong members of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. Grace was a member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association, Lesia Ukrainka Branch, Veselka Summer Camp, and Ukrainian Museum of Canada. She worked as a secretary at Clifton School and later for her son’s Insurance Company.
Predeceased by husband Morris of 46 years, parents Simon and Mary Mykytiuk, brother James, sister-in-law Nellie.
Survived by children Lorraine Mead (Dennis), Larry Karpiak (Steffie); grandchildren Cassandra Nazimek (Darcy), Kevin Mead (Joanne), Bradley Karpiak, Dale Karpiak (Jennifer); great grandchildren Emmett, Rose, Zoe, and Zach; her nieces and nephews.
Mom and Dad enjoyed summer at the cottage, traveling with friends and chose Arizona for a seasonal home. Favorite past-times included bowling, needlepoint, playing cards, and “shopping”.
Special gratitude to the staff on 4A at Holy Family home for their exceptional care and compassion.
Family service and interment is to take place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, or to a charity of one’s choice.
We will never forget the fine example that you set,
The wisdom of your sound advice,
the hours of willing sacrifice…
The years devoted to our care,
the good times that we always shared,
will never cease to be a part of treasured memories
We will keep within our hearts
