Obituary of JEAN AGATHA MCRITCHIE

JEAN AGATHA MCRITCHIE

(NEE KAWKA)

Gracefully slumbered into the arms of her Lord June 9, 2021 at  4:50 a.m.

Mom was a highly, respected and loved resident of Deer Lodge Centre for 8 years.  Mom had superior care from all the faculties and health care workers, especially her nurses. The family thanks all of them for their devotion.

Jean was born in Neepawa, MB November 29, 1931.  Firstborn to Anne and Nick Kawka and was surrounded by many relatives of the Wasyluk Clan.

Mom met Wally Hyra and married in 1950. They relocated to Winnipeg for careers and to raise a family.  A family of 5, Joanne Archibald; Randy; David;Kenny (Heather); Cindy (Elia) Hyra; Later Stepdaughter Joanne McGibney (Mike).

Mom had a very tight relationship with her Siblings.  They were best friends; Shirley Sawchuk (Todd) and Walter Kawka (Eve).  And of course she truly loved her nieces and nephews; Kim; Corey; Darren; and Dale Sawchuk; like her own.

Jean managed to build a career as the Office Manager for R E SPEAR while raising 5 children.  An achievement in itself! She was well recognized by Mr. Bob Spear.  Bob once said he could not have expanded without her!

Mom was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Charlene Hyra (Chris and son Sam); Ashley Hyra (Christian and daughter Lexi); Taylor Archibald(Vanessa); Bryn Hyra (Jessie and daughter Emily); Kyle Hyra; Bronwyn Brett (Jono, children Levi and Norah); Kelly Hyra(Matt); Robin Hyra(Britt);  Rachel and Ryan McGibney; John and Conor Hyra.

Mom had a second blessing in her life.  She met James McRitchie in 1980 and married in 1982.  What a life they had!  Mom journaled all their adventures across North America.  What a journey!   One thing for sure, they would always be home for Christmas to see all the family and  grandchildren!! Tiny deceased in 2002 along with her special son in law Rick Archibald.

Mom pursued her hobbies and love of cooking (chicken soup and perogies). She passed that skill down to all of her family.  Thank you for this!

Where Mom could volunteer she would.  Mom served on many committees in her lifetime, her last committee was for Deer Lodge Centre as Chair of the Advocacy committee for patients.  She did an excellent job and even became the volunteer face in the halls of the Centre.

In closing Mom, life was hard at times, but you always found a way to smile and make us feel loved, we will be calling upon you from time to time in prayer.  We will cry till our tears run dry.  You were a woman of strength and faith.  We loved you so much but we know you are with God.  We will miss everything about you!

A Private Family Service will be held on Friday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m., due to Covid restrictions please visit www.cropo.com to view the livestream.
