FRANCES GORBER

Obituary of FRANCES KATHERINE GORBER

I am deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of my mother, Frances Katherine Gorber in Winnipeg on June 22, 2021 at the age of 83 years. She was predeceased by her husband Walter Ronald Gorber and her son Jeffrey Ronald Gorber as well has her parents Francis and Kathryn Rybak, and sisters Valerie Hnidan and Felice Rybak. My mother is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kathryn Gorber, nieces Linda Elwood and Patricia Herzberg, nephew Edward Gorber as well as many great nephews, cousins and friends as well as her aunt Shirlee Suffka from Chicago, Illinois.

My mother was born and raised in Winnipeg and graduated from St. John's High School. She attended the University of Manitoba from which she obtained her Bachelor of Science and Education degrees and then when on to obtain her Library Sciences degree from McGill University in Montreal. After obtaining her degree in library sciences, she returned to Winnipeg and married her husband in 1971. She started her teaching career as the school librarian at Aberdeen High School and later went on to teach at Wolseley School, followed by Machray School leading up to her retirement in 1998.

My mother had a wonderful life with her husband and two children. She enjoyed taking many family road trips together, and in her retirement went on cruises to the Caribbean, Central America and South America with her husband and friends. She also particularly enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage at Winnipeg Beach. She was an avid animal lover and had several pets during her lifetime. She also loved watching the Winnipeg Jets play and never missed watching a game. My mother was an intelligent, kind and very generous person who gave lots of money to many different charities.

Most importantly, she was the best mother anybody could ask for. She was my confidant and best friend. She will be sorely missed by myself and all who knew her. Rest in peace mom. You will always be in my heart. Love, your daughter Kathy.

Many thanks to Dr. Casey Woo for his many years of service to her as her family physician, as well as the fire and paramedical crew, Dr. John Sokal and the staff at the Health Sciences Centre for the care they gave my mother.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Winnipeg Humane Society. Further announcement to come regarding a service.
