Obituary of ELSIE MISKIW
ELSIE MISKIW (nee Kachan)
Elsie passed away peacefully at Holy Family Home on July 21, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband John in June 2004; and father Nykola; mother Anna (nee Wintoniak); brothers Mike, Bill, Matthew, John, Stanley; sisters Stella Glowa, and Ann House; nephews John Glowa, Willie House, Marshall Kachan; and niece Eileen Morrison.
Elsie was born on October 6, 1916 and grew up on the family farm in the District of Marco, near Rossburn MB. As a young woman she came to Winnipeg and worked at various restaurants. There she met a young handsome man John (originally from Zhoda) and it was love at first sight. Elsie and John were married October 6, 1956 in St Andrews church and the reception was in Zhoda, MB.
Elsie and John made their Home in West Kildonan. Together they grew vegetable and flower gardens, and their grass was always perfectly trimmed. They loved to dance and watch the Bombers together. They were long time members of St. Nicholas Church. Elsie was a perfectionist; their house was always immaculate. She was very talented in sewing, knitting, and needlepoint. Elsie was always a great hostess; she loved to make home-cooked meals and bakings. She loved to read the Free Press, and was always very interested in politics.
After John's passing, she continued to live in their house until she was 99 and she still continued to maintain the home amazingly beautiful too and still enjoyed preparing meals for company.
Elsie leaves to mourn her sister-in-law Victoria Horbas, numerous nieces and nephews Lorraine Groff, Larry Kachan, David Glowa, Shirley Ainsworth, John Kachan, John House, Bessie Downey and all the Miskiw family, friends and neighbours.
The family would like to thank all the Doctors and Staff at Holy Family Home, St. Mary's Wing for the love and care that was given to Elsie. And also Father Bohdan Lukie for all his prayers and blessings.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Family Home, or to the charity of your choice, in memory of Elsie.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street with Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM officiating.
