WILMOT JAMES HOBSON

Mr. Wilmot James Hobson, affectionately known as "James" 84, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, entered into eternal rest at his home, the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre, on July 1, 2021.

Wilmot was born in Basseterre, St Kitts, November 20th, 1937, to the late Arnold Hobson & Countess Hobson (nee Smith). He grew up in Aruba, Netherland Antilles, where he graduated from high school.  Upon graduation, Wilmot relocated to Slough, England, where he joined the Royal Air Force; he was stationed in Kuala Lumpur. After leaving the military, Wilmot became a Gas Board Operator for North Thames Gas Board. In 1973 he moved to Winnipeg and worked as a heavy-duty Diesel Mechanic at International Harvester. He was also employed as a Journeyman Mechanic on the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line.

In addition to his parents, Wilmot was preceded in death by his sisters, Verna Matthews, Peola Priam (Edward), Mayfields Hobson; brother, Wesley Hobson, and his bonus daughter Linda Hobson.

His family knew him only as a kind and gentle man. Wilmot was selfless and went out of his way to help his family and friends while expecting nothing in return. He had a passion for photography, making hair pomade,  disc jockeying, fixing cars and computers, drawing, and researching everything on the Internet.  Wilmot was also known for his famous wine that he would spend years fermenting only to share with anyone that came to his home.

He leaves to cherish precious memories of his son, Stephen Hobson of Trenton, ON; three daughters, Elizabeth Hobson-Powell (Edwin) of Washington, DC, Jamina Richards of Brampton, ON, and Treshia Hobson (Tom) of Winnipeg, MB; siblings, Eustace Hobson (Cavelle) of Saint Kitts, WI,  Robert Hobson (Margaret) of Winnipeg, MB, Earl Wyatt (Rita) of Sint Maarten, WI and Bernice Berne; six grandchildren; Latoya, Ty, Quinn, Reid, Carson, and Lennox; two great-grandchildren; Noa and Giselle, a number of nieces, nephews, and a vast number of other loving relatives, caring friends (Veronica, Drexel & Dolores) and bonus daughter Nadine.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to The Saul & Claribel Simkin Centre staff for providing compassionate care to Wilmot during his brief stay at the facility up until he was called home to see his Lord and Saviour. Wilmot's wishes were to be cremated.  A Celebration of Wilmot’s Life will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
