Obituary of EUGENIA LIUSZ
EUGENIA LIUSZ
Peacefully while she slept on Thursday August 12, 2021 Eugenia Liusz (nee Domszy) passed away at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 97. Eugenia was born on April 30, 1924 in Ostrow which at the time was in south east Poland. At the age of 15 World War II started and Eugenia’s family was expelled to Siberia by the Soviet Union. When Germany invaded the Soviet Union, it gave amnesty to Polish citizens. Eugenia joined the Polish Army and was trained in Palestine. She was transferred to Scotland and served as a nurse’s aide at a Polish military hospital where she met her future husband.
Near the end of the war, she married Grzegorz and had 4 children in Scotland. They immigrated to Canada in 1950 and settled in Winnipeg where 2 more children were born. She worked at Winnipeg Tent and Awning as a sewer for many years. Eugenia was a long-time parishioner of Holy Ghost Church, a member of the Catholic Women’s League and a member of the Polish Combatants Association No.13.
Eugenia was a loving and devoted wife and a caring compassionate mother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was most important to Eugenia because she lost many family members in the war. Left to cherish her memory are her children Joe [Elizabeth], Krysia, Theresa [Gordon] Ted [Davolyn], grandchildren Lisa, Kelly, Grace, John, Peter, Janice, Monica, Dorothy, Allyson, Andrew, Lauryn and 17 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by Grzegorz her loving husband of 74 years, her sons Tadeusz and Stanley, as well as her son in law Zdzislaw, grandson in law Dave and granddaughter in law Suzie.
The family would like to send a deeply heartfelt thank you to the staff at Deer Lodge Centre Tower 6 and 5 for their compassionate and loving care and for the kindnesses they extended throughout her final years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Parish, 341 Selkirk Avenue, with live streaming on the parish website and internment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Centre or Holy Ghost Cemetery.
Wieczny odpoczynek racz jej dać, Panie,
A światłość wiekuista niechaj jej świeci.
Niech odpoczywa w pokoju wiecznym.
Amen.
