Vera featured largely in my life as a very close friend of my mother, Nellie Korol. Their friendship over a period of 70 years was formed at the Federation of Russian Canadians where they sang together in the alto section of the choir, and worked together on the Executive, organizing and participating in many events such as concerts, banquets, and cultural events. They were the last of the FRC Seniors Club before the organization folded. They shared an awareness of social injustice and pursued social causes. When spouses Walter Weremiuk and John Korol were alive, they enjoyed each others’ company as a foursome. Vera was a bright, capable woman who passed on her keen organizational and diplomacy skills to her children. She was kind and soft-spoken; her caring friendship was crucial to my mother’s well-being in her last few years at Misericordia Place. I will always remember Vera with great admiration and fondness.
