Obituary of ROBERT BORDEN LACOMBE

ROBERT BORDEN LACOMBE
April 18, 1935 - October 19, 2021

It is with great sadness and regret we announce the unexpected passing of Robert Borden LaCombe.

Bert/Bob was born and raised in Winnipeg. Early in his work career he worked for the Bank of Canada. While working here, Dad and his family were transferred to Ottawa where they lived for two years.

After that, Dad returned to Winnipeg to run the family soft drink business, Dan's Beverages. A few years later Dad stepped into the career he loved, managing the overall accounting for dealerships such as Dominion Motors, Chrysler Truck Center, and Westport Chrysler until he retired at age 64.

Dad enjoyed league bowling for a number of years, and curled as a skip for many years at West Kildonan Curling Club. There Dad made wonderful friendships that continued on, long post-curling, with their "monthly lunches" for many, many years.

From an early age Dad enjoyed music, learning to play Guitar, the Steel Guitar and Bass Guitar. We have heard many wonderful stories about his days playing at Patterson's Barn before we were born. Dad enjoyed playing in bands with the Red River Playboys, with Glen Frain, and later with Ted Fraser who became his best friend. There were many memorable events with Dad playing with Ted at weddings, the Red River Ex, and numerous Manitoba Festivals.

Dad was predeceased by his father Joe in 1969 and mother Nettie in 2016.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 65 years, Wanda, his daughter Cindy Kasprick (Barry), daughter Terry Hickman (Kent), son Rob LaCombe (Debbie), grandchildren, Jennifer Kasprick, Mike Kasprick, Kyla LaCombe, Mandy Hale (Daniel), Justice Hickman, great-grandson Joey Hickman, and sister-in-law Patricia Hudgins.

A viewing will take place at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., on Monday, October 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All are welcome. Masks required.

Dad's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 26 at 12:00 p.m., also held at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Unfortunately, only people who are fully vaccinated may attend his funeral, our apologies, masks required. All are welcome to attend Dad's interment at Elmwood Cemetery following the funeral service.

Rest Dad, your pain is over. We love you.
