Louisa Helen Leitch

(nee Hogg)

June 20, 1936 – November 11, 2021

 

Peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2021 our beautiful Mom, Louisa, joined Dad in Heaven. Mom passed away at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home with her daughter Brenda by her side.

 

Mom was born in Maryfield, Saskatchewan to John and Edith Hogg. The family lived the farm life for a number of years before moving to Winnipeg, living in Norwood.

 

Mom was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 47 years Ronald Leitch; her parents John and Edith Hogg; sisters Mary Hogue and Patricia Savage (Tom) and brother, baby Gilbert. She is survived by her children April Leitch; Brenda Maxwell (Brian); Christopher Leitch (Judy Bayes); and Derrick Leitch (Debra Otto); her three grandchildren Jensen and Coby Maxwell, and Abby Otto-Leitch; and nieces and nephews.

 

Mom and Dad had a special love, and after they met they were inseparable. They were married on July 1, 1961. While dating, Mom spent many hours at Billy Mosienko Lanes where Dad worked. They also enjoyed playing cards with their close friends, a tradition that carried on for many years; and taking trips with the family. In their later years they loved their time at the hobby farm they purchased northeast of Winnipeg, with Mom tending to her large garden and Dad looking after the lawn on his riding mower, and together delighting in the hummingbirds that would visit. Another favourite of Mom’s was spending time with Dad at White Lake/Rainbow Falls enjoying the quiet and beauty.

 

Mom worked at Manitoba Telephone System before she and Dad started their family. Family was everything to Mom. She lovingly prepared delicious and special meals all the time, especially for Christmas and birthdays. Her warm smile and welcoming charm were well known. Some of her favourite hobbies were knitting, baking, and cooking. She was also involved in Melrose Park Community Club when the kids were younger.

 

Mom was an active member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church on Helmsdale Avenue for over 50 years, working many years as a church secretary before retiring to be with her grandchildren. When Dad passed, she helped start a widows group at the church for those to meet, be together, and assist each other.

 

One of Mom’s most treasured hobbies was gardening. She would spend many hours tending to the variety of flowers she grew at home, enjoying their beauty as she sipped tea on the patio. She also loved feeding the birds and squirrels that would visit each day. Every year she combined her love of cooking and gardening, making her delicious rhubarb treats and grape jelly harvested from the garden plants, and sharing with family and friends. Mom was also an avid sports fan, watching and cheering on the Jets, Blue Jays, her favourite golfer, and most of all catching any curling game she could find. She also loved playing golf and for many years was part of a ladies fun league at Harbour View Golf Course. 

 

The family would like to thank the Nurses and all the staff of Donwood Manor for their kindness and dedicated care, especially Cassandra, Ivan, Lisa, Naomi, and Ruth.

 

A celebration of Mom’s life will take place at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Cremation has already taken place. In keeping with current Provincial Public Health Orders, all wishing to attend must show proof of vaccination and identification. Live stream will also be available through www.cropo.com.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Siloam Mission, or a charity of your choice.
