Obituary of WANDA CECILIA BONIN

Wanda Cecilia Bonin (Kuprowski) September 19, 1934 – November 23, 2021

With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mom and baba, Wanda, on November 23, 2021, at the age of 87.

She is survived by her daughters June, Tracy (Peter) and Darcy (Ellie), and her grandchildren, Giulia, Nella (Luke), Nicholas (Sarah), Thomas (Madelaine) and Matthew (Rachelle), and her great grandchildren, Logan, Grace, Griffin, Benjamin, Ruby and Vincent; brother Larry (Mickey). And many extended family and friends. Wanda was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Roland in 2018.

A Celebration of Life in Wanda’s honor will be held on December 4, 2021, at 1 PM, at the Cropo Funeral Chapel located at 1800 Day Street in Transcona.

All government health orders to be followed including proof of double vaccination and ID. Wanda will be laid to rest with Roland at a later date.

Wanda was born in Transcona on September 19, 1934. She lived most of her life in Transcona except for 3 years in Churchill and 20 years at Victoria Beach. She loved being from Transcona and couldn’t wait to move back to her roots. Wanda loved to cook and excelled at Ukrainian dishes of perogies and cabbage rolls. There was nothing she liked better than putting on a big dinner for her family and being around the young ones. She worked at Salisbury House for several years, “slinging hash” as she called it, where she made many lifelong friends. When she retired mom and dad decided to open up a little hamburger stand at Albert Beach where their cottage was. After Dad retired, they moved to Victoria Beach and were active participants at the Senior’s Club. Mom was active in lawn bowling and bingo and loved her stitch and bitch club. When they moved back to Transcona she was quick to start volunteering at Park Manor Personal Care Home, helping out where she could. She also enjoyed volunteering at Blessed Sacrament Parish as a greeter and helping with collections.

The family would like to thank the staff of Concordia Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital, Health Sciences Centre and Park Manor Personal Care Home for their care and dedication in looking after our mother. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Wanda’s name to a charity of your choice.
