Obituary of LAWRENCE OLIVER OVERBY
Lawrence Overby
July 10, 1938 – December 4, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend at the age of 83.
Lawrence was born in a car outside of Ethelbert. He was raised with his four siblings in nearby Pine River, where he helped in the family garage, and a life-long love of fixing things was born.
He left home to complete grade 12 and train as a teacher in Winnipeg. He launched his career in a one-room school, eventually finding his niche as an industrial arts teacher for the St James School Division.
Lawrence met the love of his life, Leona, in 1959. They were married in 1963, and raised two sons in their West Kildonan home.
Lawrence loved life, taking family trips, fishing with his buddies, curling in multiple leagues, and cheering on his beloved Bombers.
Lawrence was a devoted husband, loving father and doting grand-father. His grand-sons were the light of his life. He spent countless hours with them, never missing a game or concert.
He was predeceased by his parents Carl and Antoinette, sisters Myrtle (John) and Eleanor (Syl), and brother Melvin.
He is survived by his loving wife Leona, his sons Larry (Nicole) and Kris, his grand-sons Hunter and Reece, his brother Vern (Rose), his sister in-law Verna and many nieces and nephews.
Lawrence, you will forever be in my heart. I will miss you every day.
Dad, Papa, your unconditional love and generosity will forever be remembered and missed.
We would like to thank the homecare workers and nurses, especially Jerome and Eric, for their exceptional care and compassion.
A private service will be held. For those unable to attend, a recording of the service will be available at www.cropo.com on December 13, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice can be made in Lawrence’s name.
