Obituary of CHARLES STOSSEL
CHARLES STOSSEL
It is with deep sadness, the family announces the sudden but peaceful passing of Charles Stossel at his home on November 28, 2011.
Charles was born in Winnipeg on November 16, 1927 as the fourth child to Frank and Anna Stossel who had emigrated from Switzerland three years previously. Charles had a happy childhood and he was extremely proud of his heritage. He lived his life with enthusiasm and was passionate about his many hobbies. As a child, Charles’ parents bred springer spaniels and patented waterfowl decoys, and from his folks, Charles inherited a love of the great outdoors. He was an excellent woodsman who loved swimming, hunting, and fishing and he shared in the building of a family cottage at Lac du Bonnet. He was a creative woodworker and a brilliant photographer.
At the age of 14, Charles started working at Eaton’s and he built a career as a butcher/chef, retiring after over 41 years of service. It was at Eaton’s that Charles met the love of his life and future wife, his beloved Yvette. They married in 1994 and together created a life rich with love, friendship and laughter. They enjoyed music and dancing, camping and travelling, and a bicycle built for two. They loved their home and garden and quiet times together. Yvette mourns the passing of her precious Charlie and will forever cherish his memory and all the years they had together.
Charles shared many happy times with his siblings and their families: predeceased brother Franz (Margaret); predeceased sister Anne Sheen (Henry), sister Freda Pratt (Bill); niece Joanne and her family.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his stepfamily: Ron, Madeleine (Danny), Christine (Dave), Louise (deceased), Suzanne (Harvey), Laara (Andy) and Paul, and their respective families.
Charles will be missed by his friends, neighbors and everyone who loved him and particularly by his best buddies George and Bert. What a time they had!
A Celebration of Charles’ Life will take place at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Friday, December 2 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street.
