Obituary of FELICIDAD ALVAREZ VIVAR

On Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 1:40 PM, Felicidad Alvarez Vivar (“Mamang”) passed away peacefully at Fred Douglas Lodge in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

 

Mamang was predeceased by her parents, Aurelio and Natividad Alvarez, her husband, Aniceto Vivar, Jr. (“Papang”), her son, Roy Vivar and her siblings, Jose (Joe) Alvarez, Ligaya (Dayang) Alvarez, Corazon Chavez and her grandson Zachary James Pamandanan.  Mamang is survived by her daughter, Dana Vivar (Alvin Pamandanan), her grandchildren, Daniel and Alanah, her siblings, Ruben Alvarez (Edith), Dan Alvarez (Maria Fe), Samson Alvarez (Alicia) and Eleanor Guevarra and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

 

Mamang was born on December 4, 1943 in Cavite city, Cavite, Philippines.  Mamang attended high school in Cavite, but every Friday after school, she and her siblings would travel back to Mindoro to spend the weekend with her parents.  Mamang was the eldest so was responsible to cook meals and look after her siblings during the week.

 

Mamang was sponsored by her sister, Ligaya Alvarez, and migrated to Canada in January, 1975.  Upon arriving to Canada, they purchased their brand new home in the Maples where they lived and raised their family.   In 1978, Mamang and Papang took oath as Canadian Citizens. 

 

Mamang worked at Motor Coach Industries when she first arrived in Canada.  Mamang tried to work during the day, but whenever she would drop off her children at the baby-sitters, Dana would start crying, grab the car door, and would not let go.  She was fortunate enough to work the graveyard shift so she could look after her children during the day.  Mamang was proud to work at Motor Coach and even more-so when she passed her welder’s licence. She was one of the very few women welders during the time.  She was always very thankful for the men who trained her weld during their breaktime.  Mamang retired in 2006 so she could look after her grandchildren.

 

Mamang was proud to be a member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ).  She was baptized in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro in 1954.  Mamang was a Deaconess in the local.  Even when she lost sight in one of her eyes, she never waivered in her duty as a Deaconess and was so proud to wear her uniform.

 

Mamang enjoyed gardening and her house was surrounded by flowers even around her fence.  Mamang always said she hated cooking, but she was a great cook and was always in the kitchen cooking. She would stop whatever she was doing at 5:00 to watch Young and the Restless.  Mamang also loved watching CSI and NCIS and would fall asleep with the TV on.

 

Mamang’s viewing will be on Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 5 PM to 11 PM at Cropo Funeral Chapel on 1442 Main Street.  The final internment will be on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 1 PM where her final resting place will be at Brookside Cemetery at 3001 Notre Dame Avenue.

We want to ensure everyone can safely pay their last respects to Mamang and have fellowship with the bereaved family in a peaceful and orderly manner.
