Obituary of EDNA MAE CAYER

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of “Nan” Edna Mae Cayer (Jodoin) on March 10, 2022 at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg on her 99^th Birthday.

She was predeceased by her parents Mary & Hyacinthe Jodoin, brothers Merton, Wilfrid, Wesley, and her sister Joan Lachance.

Edna is lovingly remembered by her son Richard (Linda), grandchildren Jason (Sheila), Paul (Deana), Lisa (Gavin) and her great grandchildren Jordan, Danielle, Nicole, Ronan and Alex.

“Aunt Edna” will forever remain in the hearts of numerous nephews, nieces, and other extended family.

Nan has a special place in everyone’s heart. Countless close friends of our Winnipeg family called her Nan, as she was like a surrogate grandmother to everyone close to us. Just as she was a surrogate mother to Shayne and Kim in Ottawa after the passing of their mother Joan.

Edna was born on March 10, 1923 in Billings Bridge, Ontario. As the eldest of five children, she was instilled with the strong family values that guided her throughout her entire life. Growing up she always kept active with her love of dancing, skiing, skating, and playing baseball. She loved the outdoors and animals and fondly spoke about the time she had with her horse Lassie.

She worked for over 30 years with the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command in Ottawa, Ontario.

In 1983 she took an early retirement to take care of her father. After his passing, she moved to Winnipeg to live with her son Rick and Daughter in law Linda and her three grandchildren in 1985.

Although she lived many miles away, she always made time to travel to Ottawa and BC for extended summer visits with family. These visits continued all the way past her 90^th birthday. Everyone cherished her visits and she loved being able to watch her family grow in Winnipeg, Ottawa, and BC. She loved to tell anyone and everyone “I have the best family in the World!”.

She loved taking the family dog Moose for walks to keep active. She was also a passionate member of the Miniature Enthusiasts of Winnipeg (MEOW) where she was able to combine her love of miniatures with her talent for crocheting, knitting and needlepoint. Countless family members will aways adore the intricate hand made Christmas ornaments she created with love.

She always had a very positive attitude and a great sense of humour. We will all miss her infectious laugh. Especially when that laughter turned into her trademark snort.

Nan was a fiercely strong independent woman and nothing gave her more pleasure than taking care of and being surrounded by family. It was our family’s pleasure to take care of her in her final years.

Thank you, Nan, for teaching us what family truly means.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
