Obituary of RITA ISABEL FREJUK

After an amazing 89 years, Rita Frejuk has gone to be with our Lord. Rita was born to Scottish immigrant parents and was raised and lived in Transcona. She married the love of her life, Peter Frejuk (a Transcona boy), and shared 62 wonderful years raising their family with him in their home on Cloverdale Crescent. They were destined to meet as they both shared the same address growing up - one living on Yale Avenue West and the other on Yale Avenue East (they sometimes even received each other’s mail).

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Peter, daughter Wendy (Doug), son John (Christal), and special granddaughters Shayna (Steve) and Kara (Bryce) whom she adored. She loved animals and will also be missed by her grand fur babies who gave her many laughs.  Although an only child, Rita had a special bond with her cousin Iris who will miss her terribly, as will many other friends and family.

Rita loved being a stay-at-home mom/grandma and used much of her time to create a loving and caring environment for family and friends. She had a compassionate heart and was always helping others - rarely did we ever see her get mad.  Rita loved music, singing and dancing - her and Peter could be found many nights practicing their dancing in the kitchen. Rita’s favorite place was Grand Beach (Marais) where she spent every summer growing up. The family later rented a cabin for two weeks every summer for many years and enjoyed spending every day at her special place on the beach with family and friends. Even though they also spent many wonderful years on the other side of the lake at Spruce Sands, she always made the trip back to her beloved beach at least once a summer where her and Peter loved walking hand in hand on the water’s edge.

Rita was a people person and was involved in many community groups and events. She attended Transcona Memorial United Church for many years where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She had a strong belief in God and greeting her in Heaven are her parents James and Rachel Fairley, good friends Gloria and Jean, and many other family and friends.

She loved her Scottish heritage and loved the bagpipes. She was thrilled when, at her 75th birthday party, a piper arrived to serenade her.  Rita’s favourite song, and her granddaughters’ favourite lullaby, was Danny Boy.  "In Sunshine and in Shadow" - until we meet again.

A small, private “Celebration of Life” will take place later this Spring.
