Obituary of MARIA ZAKREWSKY
MARIA ZAKREWSKY
August 4, 1947 – November 30, 2011
It is with great sadness that we grieve the sudden and unexpected passing of our wife, mother, sister and grandmother Maria Zakrewsky. She passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with ALS, surrounded by her loving family, at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg at age 64.
Maria was born in Malyj Xodachkiv, Ternopilska obl., Ukraine, were she went to school. She worked as a telephone operator in Ternopil main telecommunication center (MTS) for over 20 years before immigrating to Gimli, MB on April 1, 1990, where she worked as chief cook at Gimli Recreation Center. In 1994 she moved to Winnipeg with her family and started a new chapter in her life. She was employed by Holy Family Home for 12 years.
Maria was kind, loyal, generous, and gifted with great talents in the kitchen. Her family was the most important part of her life and her favourite occupation was grand-parenting. Her strength, rooted in her deep faith, inspired us.
Maria will be lovingly remembered by her husband Anton; son Volodimir; daughter-in-law Oksana; grandchildren: Veeta(Maria) and Natalia; sisters Stefanija and Dana.
Prayers (Panaxyda) will be held on Friday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Vladimir & Olga Cathedral, 114 McGregor St. Winnipeg, MB. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery.
She is now at peace in eternal rest.
