am very sorry to hear of Marilyn’s passing. I went to high school with Marilyn in Emerson. She had a very bubbly, free spirited, charismatic personality, always with a beautiful smile. A few years back before COVID, our class got together in D.C. for a reunion. I am very grateful to have spent the day reminiscing and catching up with Marilyn. My condolences to her family. Marilyn and I are first cousins. Our family farms were only 1/2 a mile apart so there was a lot of back and forth between the families. The rest of our dads’ siblings all lived within 4 or 5 miles of our farms, so there were lots of family get-together in our growing up years. When Marilyn moved to Wpg, we often saw her on weekends at different functions in the Emerson area. When we moved to Altona from Wpg and adopted our son Daniel, Marilyn came to Daniel’s 4th birthday party dressed in full clown regalia. She had joined an amateur clown troop in Wpg. How appropriate for someone with her sense of humour! Thank you, Marilyn, for many great memories. Kathy, Lyle and Daniel Dunsmore

I haven't seen Marilyn in years. We were in school together in Emerson and in the same group for confirmation at church. I remember her as a friendly thoughtful person. We had a high school reunion in Emerson shortly after I had separated from my husband and had moved to Emerson. I was feeling very alone and overwhelmed and certainly not up to a school reunion. Although we hadn't seen each other for a few years she came to get me and got me out of the house to the reunion. I will always be thankful for her thoughtfulness and kindness. I regret that we didn't stay in touch. My condolences to the family.

I’m so sad to hear Marilyn has passed. When I saw the name I thought, “I know this woman, I know that name”. Then I saw her picture and remembered quite clearly. It must have been 1997 or 98. I’d been seconded to Canada Customs as an audit advisor and I was training Customs staff on accounting and auditing of topics. After the afternoon coffee break I resumed the lecture. As was my practice, I maintained eye contact with everyone in the room starting from left to right. The room was horseshoe shaped. As my gaze reached the two o’clock position where Marilyn was seated I made eye contact with her. Marilyn was wearing eyeglasses with springs attached to the lenses. At the end of each spring was attached a round eyeball and each eyeball was bouncing up and down. I swear I just about filled my drawers. I could not stop laughing for at least five minutes. The room went wild. It was exactly what we all needed for what was an incredibly dry topic. I’ve never forgotten that day and Marilyn’s fantastic sense of honour.

Marilyn was my best friend when I moved to Emerson in 1970. Greg Gerolamy and I would meet after school at her Uncle’s leather tooling shop. We would smoke and Marilyn would craft. One weekend in Spring the 4 of us (including her cousin Lois) got stuck in the mud with my Dad’s car on the road near her parents farm. I remember walking into their yard 6:00am to be greeted by her Mom (barefoot!). She made us breakfast and I called my parents to say we and the car were OK (the days before cell phones).
Marilyn worked in Emerson Customs office under my dear old Dad DJ Cook.
She transferred to Winnipeg and was my clerical supervisor at Customs Postal.
To say we had a great working relationship would be an understatement.
Marilyn was a trooper and good friend. We miss her horribly.

I want to extend my condolences to all of Marilyn's family and extended family. I have fond memories of growing up around Marilyn as we only lived a mile apart through all our school years. She had an easy laugh and smile. And a great sense of humor. She was a good friend to all who were lucky enough to know her. Whenever you would bump in to Marilyn she always had time to chat and was comfortable to be around. (Absent from the body....present with the Lord). Until we meet again my dear friend.....
