JOAN PAPUSHKA

Obituary of JOAN SYLVIA PAPUSHKA

JOAN (JOANIE) PAPUSHKA

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joan “Joanie” Papushka on March 12, 2022.

Joan was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba and went to school in Winnipeg. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with the Federal Government. Joan dedicated much of her time to her community. She volunteered with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights for many years.

Joan had a deep connection to the family farm in Elma, Manitoba, where the generations before her forged their future as homesteaders. Gardening brought her so much joy! She had a zest for travel and loved to share stories about her travels locally and around the world. Joan was a dedicated fan and loved watching the Bombers and the Jets bring home a win.

Joan was predeceased by parents, Paul and Mary, and sister, Fern Papushka. Joan is fondly remembered by brother, Harry(Eileen), and nieces Caren, Sharon(Jeff) and nephew David(Kathleen) who all shared love for Joan and who will cherish her legacy by sharing her memories with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Dialysis Unit and the numerous medical professionals at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre for the care and attention they provided Joan when she was in need. We would also like to thank the staff at River Ridge 2 for their compassion and the excellent standard of care they provided for Joan.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Joan’s memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
