Obituary of GERTRUDE HARRISON
May 20, 1934 – May 3, 2022
Peacefully, with family by her side, Gertrude passed away at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 87 years. Gertrude is remembered by her son David (Susan), daughter Nanci (Ken), granddaughter Cherise, sister Del, as well as nieces, nephews and friends across the world. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Stan, who we know has been busy fixing things and getting everything just right for her arrival.
Mom spent most of her working life as an operator with MTS. After retiring in 1997, she, dad and Del became world explorers, travelling to far-flung destinations and always returning with a few new friends and stories of adventure. Summers were spent at the cottage in Matlock making memories with family and friends that have become the stuff of legend. Winters were spent in California with Del, which became like a second home, and where she developed many close friendships.
Mom had an irrepressible joie de vivre. Even in the face of her cancer diagnosis, she never stopped enjoying life. We will always remember her for her ability to make friends wherever she went, her love of laughter (and a good prank), and her enjoyment of animals and nature.
As per her wishes, a private celebration of her life and a family interment has been held. We thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their kindness, compassion and care during her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the World Wildlife Fund in Gertrude’s memory.
