Obituary of JOESEPH (JOE) MICHEL SCHMIDT
Joeseph (Joe) Michel Schmidt
Feb. 27, 1960-May 16, 2022
Joe passed away on May 16, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Frances Schmidt, his two older sisters Mary McKinnon and Margaret Miller and many members of Debbie’s family. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, but knew for 43 years, Debbie (nee Keeley), his daughter Margaret Wiltshire (Mike) who he was so very proud of, his grandchildren Myrddin and Rinoa who brought a whole new joy to his heart when they were born, his brother Andy Schmidt (Lucy) who called frequently to stay in touch, brothers-in-law Brian Keeley (Esther) and Hugh (Cody) Keeley (Linda), sister-in-law Sylvia Sullivan and many nieces and nephews and cats Bo and Ribbon who brought him much happiness and kept him company during the day.
Joe was born in Barrie, Ontario and moved with his family to Winnipeg in the late 1970’s where he met many friends who shared his love of both fishing and hunting. He also loved Cycling, NASCAR, The Winnipeg Jets, The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and going to classic car shows. He spent most of his years working in autobody shops including Donvito Auto Body on Arlington, Maaco on Hutchings (Ev and Burt Tjader) and Maaco on Wall Street (Rod Shwaykosky). He took great pride in his work and appreciated that he got to work on classic cars when they came in.
He faced challenges in his life including finding out in 2008 that he had MS and in 2012 he had a stroke that left him in a wheelchair but he maintained a positive attitude and appreciated life.
He will be forever loved and remembered. Thank you to family, friends and medical personnel through the years who supported us, it is appreciated more than you will ever know.
Joe has been cremated and we will be having a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, June 7th from 7:00 to 9:00PM at the Red River Community Centre at 293 Murray Avenue.
