Obituary of ELVINA CUSHMAN

ELVINA ESTHER CUSHMAN (nee Rathgeber) Peacefully, Elvina Cushman passed away at the Concordia Hospital, on Friday, January 31, 2013 at the age of 72 years. Elvina was predeceased by her husband Don in 1999; and her parents John and Adela Rathgeber. She leaves to mourn her passing her children; Kim (Rick) Slade, Tammy (Brian) Ste. Marie, Trevor (Donna Kostiuk), Shelley (Murray) McMullan, Shaunna (Jason) Wall; grandchildren, Ryan and Katy Slade and Taylor and Jared Ste. Marie; sister, Coreen (Don), brothers Ron (Jackie), Jerry, and Dennis (Linda). Elvina was born on October 2, 1940 near Goodeve, Saskatchewan. In her early teens, she moved from the farm to Melville with her family. After completing high school in Melville, she moved to Regina in 1958 to begin working for the provincial government. There she met Don and they married on February 8, 1964. The next few years were busy and productive – 5 children and a move to Winnipeg. She became a stay at home mom and babysat – becoming "Auntie Al" to many neighbourhood children. In1979, she took a job in the office of Chief Peguis School and remained there until her retirement in 2001. In 2009, she moved into Devonshire House where she made many new friends. One of her favourite things to do was visit with all the "Hens" in the "Henhouse"! She was a loving wife, Mom and Grandma who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Service will be on Wednesday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff that cared for mom at Concordia Hospital.
