Obituary of GUILHERMINA PEREIRA
GUILHERMINA PEREIRA
December 26, 1936 to July 7, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Guilhermina Pereira.
She was predeceased by her parents Agostinho Viveiros and Maria Do Carmo, husband of 52 years at his passing, Eduardo Pereira, brother Manuel Rego, sister Cizaltina Ferreira and sister-in-law Conceiçao Rego.
Guilhermina is lovingly remembered by her daughter Fatima (Carlos), sons Ed (Teresa) and Manny (Mary Pily); grandchildren Nelson (Holly), Christopher, Ashley (Jordan) Nash, Chelsea (Joe), Brendan and Devon; great-grandchildren Greyson and Oliver Nash; brother Leonardo Rego; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Guilhermina was born and raised in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal and immigrated to Canada in 1970 with her husband and three children. She worked at the Sterling Stall leather factory for many years and truly enjoyed being the primary babysitter for her own grandchildren as well as all the neighbourhood children. She was “Vavo” to nearly every young person she met. She loved to cook, bake, crochet, knit, sew and share all of her creations with everyone she loved. Her happiest moments were those shared with her entire family. She was a devout Catholic and was very involved in her church, the Immaculate Conception Parish. She was a long-time member of the Legion of Mary group within the church, where she made many friends.
The family especially thanks her friend Antonia Pereira, who gave her rides to church, and her friends and neighbours Mr. and Mrs. Pimentel, who took her to visit the sick individuals in her community. Special thanks also goes out to all the staff at St. Joseph’s Personal Care Home and the doctors and nurses at the Grace Hospital.
A prayer vigil will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 9:00 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin Street North, with Fr. André Lico presiding. Mausoleum internment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.
