Obituary of DORIS MILIAN
Doris Milian
(nee Filler)
August 12, 1925 – August 20, 2022
Doris Milian passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022 just a few days after turning 97 years old.
She was predeceased by her parents Hnat and Ksenia Filler, her husband Michael whom with she shared 57 years of marriage, her daughter Michele and her sisters Mary, Nettie and Anne.
Doris leaves to mourn her sister Helen, her son’s Larry (Margaret), Ted and Steve (Jackie). As well as her grandchildren David (Joann), Maralee (Chris), Rebecca (Chris), Elizabeth (Jeremy), Ksenia and Kiernan (Janet). Doris also leaves her great-grandchildren Hailey, Hunter, Faith and Evie.
Born in Steinbach, Manitoba, Doris lived on the farm in the school district of Caruthers near Sarto, Manitoba. She spent 23 years living on the farm, before moving to Winnipeg in 1948. In Winnipeg she lived on Parr Street for over 70 years. Following that Doris moved to River Ridge in 2021.
Doris was an accomplished seamstress and spent her time making her own clothing, as well as clothing for family, friends and many others. She had a deep-rooted love for travel. Mom and Dad took many trips across Canada and the USA where she visited her family and friends.
Mom and Dad both had a strong attachment to their summer home at Lundar Beach, where they spent many years.
Mom was an active member of St. John Cantius Church. She and Dad dedicated many hours volunteering with different initiatives through the church. Mom was a dedicated member of the CWL for over 65 years.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Church, 846 Burrows Ave. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. Acting pallbearers will be Doris’ nephews: Stan Tomchuk, Tim Tomchuk, Colten Tomchuk, Jim Tomchuk, Dan Tomchuk and Ron Tanchuk.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doris’ name to the Children’s Hospital Foundation, 533A- 715 McDermot Ave.
