I want to extend my feelings of sorrow to the helpers of Canada's former Ambassador to the United States of America, the companions of former U.S. President and First Lady Barack H. Obama & Michelle (Robinson) Obama, the fellow benefactors of former First Daughters Malia and Sasha, on the passing of The Honourable and Reverend William "Bill" Alexander Blaikie. My prayers are with the many former worshippers of Mr. Blaikie, the former colleagues of the husband of Her Honour the Honourable Janice C. Filmon, C.M., O.M. Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba and his fellow members of the King's Privvy Council of Canada, late retired former Manitoba Premier Howard Pawley and his wife's cousin-in-law and former Governor General Consort and wife of former Premier Edward Schreyer and mother of Councillor Jason Schreyer of the City of Winnipeg in the Province of Manitoba of the country where His Majesty King Charles III is the Head of State, and in the Right of Canada of His Majesty The King represented by The Minister of Indigenous Reconciliation and Northern Relations, the second cousins of the two (N.D.P.) Premiers that preceded Gary A. Doer, O.M., and the many significant others that this man had the honour to meet when he served in The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. I am very grateful for the multiple leadership initiatives that Bill had undertaken and will always remember the impact that Dr. Blaikie has made on others' lives.
I was honoured to play (the clarinet) in a band for The Flag Raising Ceremony that took place on Tuesday, October 24, 2000 under the musical direction of Mrs. (Joanne) Karlowsky and to attend a reception at The Manitoba Legislative Building in recognition of this very special occasion.

Everything about Bill was big. The first time I met Bill (in the early 70's)was at my parent's house in Victoria. When I answered the door at his knock I remember thinking "Oh my, you are really tall". Little did I know that the words actually came out of my mouth! Over the years I found that everything about Bill was big: from his love of Brenda, Rebecca. Jessica, Daniel and Tessa, his extended family, his love of country, God and Church, to his stature, voice, laugh and compassion. His visits and dinners with us in Victoria and his many stories will be greatly missed. I was so lucky to have known and loved him. Rest in Peace Bill. We will meet again.

We are very saddened to hear of Bill's passing. We were impressed by his commitment to his constituents as a politician but more importantly as a person. A good man has left this world and our hearts, prayers and hugs go out to Jessica, ( a neighbor and a friend) and her family. Much love, Jan and Brian ❤️
