I'm so sad for Mike's passing, and that I couldn't be there to celebrate his life with everyone in person. I've got very fond memories of Uncle Mike throughout the years, most often around good meals. His enthusiasm for entertaining and cooking must run in the family, as it's something I share and I'll think of him as I keep it alive and pass it onwards. Love to all the family and friends in Winnipeg today.

I've known Mike since 1982, for 23 years when we worked together in the Prairie Weather Centre, and for 17 years after his retirement in 2005. He was a dedicated meteorologist and a very good supervisor who helped many weather forecasters improve their skills over the years. But he was also very sociable and cheerful, and a great storyteller who would regale us with stories of his experiences from earlier times. He had a sharp sense of humour and didn't suffer fools easily. "The finest equipment in all the world cannot measure the infinitesimal degree that I care" about this or that issue. I'll miss his camaraderie while making perogies at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and I'll miss his everchanging wardrobe of Judge Judy T-shirts. With sincere condolences, David Patrick

Sad for your loss and sorry that Sue and we will be unable to attend Mike’s funeral as we are visiting family in Perth Australia.
Mike was my cousin and in later years when visiting Winnipeg always enjoyed his company especially his sense of humour. He will be missed but not forgotten.

I miss Mike, just knowing he's not there anymore and we won't meet up in our occasional retirement encounters. He was the kind of guy that brightened your outlook when you found he would be sharing the night shift with you. He was irreverent, occasionally very politically incorrect in his jokes, but an individual who cared about the rest of us when we worked together. A day or night shift with him was bound to be one of serious work compounded with good company and amusing stories, often about his days in Newfoundland or his occasional trips abroad. He loved his kids and we used to entertain us about his weekends adventures with them. He was good for a funny moment or memorable event - a "beach" party in January in which he piled sand into the basement, put in a kid's wading pool, turned up the heat as high as it would go, and opened the bar to 20 visitors. I'll miss him, but I have good memories of our decades together at the weather office. ... Jay Anderson

I wish I could be in Winnipeg to share my condolences and celebrate the life of an impactful man. Mike was my supervisor early in my meteorology career and he and his family were very welcoming to me when I arrived there with no family. I was invited to Mike's house, got introduced to volleyball in the city and many more wonderful experiences. His commitment to the Met Service was clear the day he walked into the centre, in a Johnny Shirt with an IV plug in his hand. and said to me that I was taking over the centre as acting manager while he had to go into emergency surgery. He had to make sure we were taken care of before going under the knife. He was a mentor and wonderful person who influenced me early during the first decade of my career. You will be missed Mike. With sympathies, John Parker.
