JOYCE NIZNOWSKI

May 15, 1933 – November 4, 2022

On the morning of Friday, November 4, 2022 Joyce passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Saviour.

Her memory will be treasured by her daughters, Sheila (Wendell Kolsun), Lorraine (Rene Milner), sons, Glen (Therese), Richard (Amie Knight), her 14 grandchildren, Kurt, Eric, Lauryssa (Andrew), Kaitlyn (Alexander), Emily (Nick), Mathew (Claire), Gabriella (Tyler), Isaiah, Julia, Natalie, Alex, Drew (Tristan), Lelan and Jade as well as 8 great-grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by sisters Olive Matiation of Winnipeg; Janet (Albert) Zemianski of Oakburn, Lillian (Malvin) Maximitch of Prince George BC, Thelma (Wallace) Piercy of Regina SK and Sylvia Raginski of Saskatoon SK. 

She was predeceased by her husband Peter Niznowski, parents Steve and Dora Sitko, brothers Frank Sitko of Oakburn, Mike Sitko of Grandview, and John Sitko of Winnipeg and sister Marcia Sitko of Winnipeg.   

Joyce was born in 1933, raised north of Oakburn, and attended St. John’s School near Zaparoza, and completed high school in Elphinstone.  She went to teacher’s college and began her teaching career in Inwood, Whitemouth, Birtle, St. Rose du Lac.  She later took courses at the University of Manitoba to complete her education degree.  In 1974 she moved with her family north to Cranberry Portage where she taught for Frontier School Division until her retirement. 

She enjoyed visits from family and friends and had a passion for quilting/crafts, gardening and canning.  She enjoyed traveling with dad and touring various destinations including Rome, Israel and Ukraine.  Mom was a woman of deep faith and was devoted to serving in her Church, the Canadian Martyrs Church.

Prayers will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. A lunch in Joyce’s honour will be served at 11:30 am. at the church hall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 748 Keewatin St. Winnipeg, Mb.  Entombment will follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue Winnipeg, Manitoba.

We, the family, would like to thank Holy Family Home, especially the nurses and support staff on St. Francis unit for their compassion and care. Special thanks to Dr. Andrea Babick, Cathy, Karen, Alex and Myroslava who were there to give her extra care when it was so critical during the Covid lockdown.
